Karen Thomas Scholarship
The Southern Order of Storytellers established the Karen Thomas Memorial Scholarship in 2001 in honor of long-time member Karen Thomas who died in 1999 after a courageous fight against cancer. Karen served for many years as Vice President of Southern Order of Storytellers and was the heart of the West Cobb Cluster Group. She was a mentor to storytellers and encouraged and supported their involvement in this ancient oral art of storytelling. Karen attended a Storytelling class taught at the Alliance Theatre. To benefit others and to recognize Karen's contributions to storytelling, storytellers and the Southern Order of Storyteller, the scholarship was created. It pays the full tuition for one person to attend an Alliance Theatre Storytelling class taught by an SOS member. Classes are usually offered in the fall, winter and summer sessions. Where possible, two scholarships are offered a year.
